Everyone seems to be talking about cocktails these days – does that mean it’s finally spring and people are ready to have a party? Fantastic!
The Sidecar is one of those very good cocktails that emerged in the early ’20’s and came out of the long Prohibition days – which must have been a nightmare! This is an age-old cocktail, yet modern at the same time: “The luminous, golden-straw color, the perfectly controlled sweetness, the jazzy high notes of the citrus against the steady bass of the brandy. This is a drink whose suavité is beyond question — it’s the Warren Beatty of modern mixology.” Esquire.com, April 1, 2012. The classic recipe follows. Pair it with a Great Gatsby party and your guests will be talking about the night for a very long time.
- 3/4 ounce Cointreau
- 3/4 ounce lemon juice
- 1 1/2 ounces Cognac
Shake well with cracked ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass with an outside rim rubbed with lemon juice and dipped in sugar. Cocktail attire required!
